Terry and Dottie Smith started Edgar’s bakery in 1998 with an original location in the shops of the Colonnade. In the following years they opened seven other locations in Birmingham, Huntsville, Greystone, Patton Creek, Pelham, Tuscaloosa.
The Trussville location was designed by the Alabama architectural/interior design firm TURNERBATSON. Mary Claire Bennett, a member of TURNERBATSON’s interior design team said, “The design intent was to keep everything neutral and light to showcase the wonderful merchandise that Edgar’s has to offer. Customers will experience design elements such as open dining, expanses of natural lighting, high ceilings, and multiple display space. I am so thankful that Dottie and Terry let us be a part of this project. We really enjoyed working with them!”
The Trussville location is a 5,000 square foot property, making it the largest of their bakeries. Being located on Main Street, the bakery is in a perfect location to serve as a segue into the new downtown; a fact that, marketing coordinator for TURNERBATSON, Melissa Stewart is very excited about.
“Terry and Dottie have been in the business for so long that Edgar’s is a well-known brand, but they are bringing something new to Trussville, which is the perfect market for the bakery,” Stewart said. “With Trussville’s revitalization, Edgar’s is a key part in the city’s growth. This location is the start of something big for the city, and we’re honored to be involved with its launch.”
Edgar’s specializes in a deli menu that includes soups, salads and sandwiches. They also have a bakery which serves pastries, cakes, cookies and other sweet confections such as lemon bars and thumbprint cookies. While choosing their orders customers may also browse the ample floor space for items such items as boutique coffee mugs, serving platters, jellies and stationary.
