From the Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE – Unused and expired drugs can pose a danger to the community. According to a 2016 national survey on drug use and health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study also revealed that most of the abused drugs came from family and friends.
However, disposing of unused or expired drugs poses a challenge of its own. Throwing out unwanted pills can fill our landfills with items that may be harmful to the environment. Flushing the drugs can have a negative impact on our water supply.
Fortunately, there is a solution. It is called “Drug Take Back” and it is happening soon.
On Saturday members of the Trussville Police Department will be on hand at city hall, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and they will be prepared to receive unused/expired drugs and make certain that they are disposed of properly.
This is a great opportunity to keep our community and citizens safe from the dangers posed by expired and unused drugs.
