GARDENDALE – Gardendale police are reporting another spate of vehicle break-ins occurred on Monday and Tuesday night.
The neighborhoods targeted were the Cottages and Lexington Park.
Thieves stole one vehicle and were thwarted from stealing another one when they were unable to figure out how to operate it. The latter vehicle was left unlocked with the key fob inside. The stolen vehicle is a 2005 Ford F150, brown in color, AL tag #1AV7680.
The vehicles that were entered appear to have been unlocked. Two firearms were stolen this time. Police believe there were multiple suspects involved in this series of crimes.
Authorities have video supplied by a neighbor from the vehicle break-ins from last week that shows the suspects walking through the neighborhoods and checking car doors to see if they’re locked. When they encountered a locked vehicle, they made no further effort to enter. They moved on to the next driveway.
Gardendale police are asking that citizens lock their vehicle doors. Police are also asking that citizens don’t leave a firearm unsecured.
Gardendale detectives are coordinating with other departments that have experienced similar crimes through the MACC (Metro Area Crime Center).
