BIRMINGHAM –Saturday was a violent and deadly day for the city of Birmingham after a rash of unrelated shooting incidents left six people shot and resulted in two deaths.
The first shooting occurred at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday when two people were shot at Third Avenue North and Center Street. Those victims are expected to survive, Carol Robinson reported.
No arrests have been made in that incident.
The second incident was reported at about 1 p.m. when police found Korey Carlisle, 37, dead from gunshot wounds in the 600 block of Goldwire Place, according to Sgt. Bryan Shelton. One suspect has been taken into custody.
The violence continued into the night when three people were shot and one killed at McDonalds on Lomb Avenue at about 10:45 p.m., according to Robinson.
The manager was unlocking the door to let three customers, a father and his teenage sons, leave the restaurant when a masked gunman entered and began firing.
The father and one of his sons were wounded in the gunfire, but the father managed to return fire, killing the masked suspect.
All three were transported to area hospitals where the masked gunman later died.
“It’s really sad an otherwise positive day had an ending like this,” Shelton told Robinson. “Earlier we had such a spirit of celebration in the city (Magic City Classic) because of the events going on and now families are having to deal with the tragedy of loved ones who are hurt or killed.”
