PINSON — For some residents in Pinson, there may be an unfamiliar name on the ballot for State Senate. Due to a mandate issued by the Federal Government in 2017, Alabama was required to comply with constitutional equal population requirements and was instructed to redraw its state Senate districts.
The Alabama Legislature having primary control of the redistricting process in our state redrew the Senate districts. The new district lines, passing just like legislation, were approved by the Governor and then submitted to the federal government which accepted the changes.
As a result of the redistricting, Senator Linda Coleman-Madison, representing Senate District 20, assumed two percent of the voters in Pinson. Therefore, according to the address of the voter, a small percentage of voters at the Pinson Rock School Precinct will find candidate Linda Coleman-Madison (D-Birmingham) on their ballots, while the remaining voters at the same Precinct will find candidate Shay Shelnutt (R-Trussville) listed for Senate District 17.
When showing your identification at the polls on Nov. 6, the correct ballot will be provided to you for voting.
Neither candidate has opposition in the general election.
