Orland Bolding Finch Jr., 88, passed away on Nov. 19, 2018.
His family originally lived in the Crestline neighborhood of Mountain Brook. During his teenage years he attended Phillips High School. After graduating in 1952, he attended UAB to be a dentist, then he decided to pursue a career as a salesman.
He was the ultimate salesman, traveling throughout the Southeast. Because of his travel experience, he was known at home as the travel agent able to plan out a trip in a matter of minutes. One of his favorite places to visit was Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Orland, otherwise known as Buddy, never met a stranger. He was known for his extreme love of God, sharp wit, amazing sense of humor, joke telling and wrote the most amazing poems. His unmatched love for children was truly inspirational. He will always be remembered for his woodworking and his commitment to making sure that the patients at Children’s Hospital had more than enough toys to play with.
On Sept. 14, 1956, Buddy was thrilled to marry the love of his life, Miriam. One of his many enjoyments in life was to introduce her as his bride, as if they were on a perpetual honeymoon. They just celebrated their 62nd anniversary.
He is survived by his bride, Miriam Finch, of Birmingham, his son Orland Bolding Finch, III of Birmingham, his son Raleigh Oglesby Finch (Amy) of Jasper, and his son Timothy Joseph Finch (Kelly) of Birmingham, grandson Christopher Evans Crane, granddaughters Jessica Michele Carney (Brandon), Deanna Camille Finch, Ada Nicole Finch Usrey (Chad) and Martha Emory Crane.
He was preceded in death by his parents Winifred and Orland Finch Sr., and his brother Joe Finch.
He also leaves behind beloved friends and family from Fullness Christian Fellowship.
Services will be held at Fullness Christian Fellowship Church on Nov. 24, 2018, 2575 Columbiana Road, Birmingham, AL, 35216. Public visitation will be held from 10 a.m. -11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. and a brief graveside prayer following the service at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL, 35244.
Memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital/Child Life Services.
