ATLANTA, Ga. — A “control issue” at the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant and Pumping Station in Atlanta left a large number of residents and businesses without water. Many areas had low pressure or no water, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Residents and businesses who lost water service were advised to boil water to one minute past rolling or drink bottled water when water service was restored. The boil advisory is expected to remain in place until Tuesday afternoon.
The outage and subsequent boil water advisory created problems for businesses, restaurants, schools and other establishments that depend on the city’s water supply.
Restaurants adjusted by serving bottled drinks in place of fountain beverages. Many schools in Atlanta did not serve students water on Monday afternoon. The Atlanta Humane Society requested that people donate water for the animals.
