Birmingham fatality placed under an unclassified death status

From The Trussville Tribune staff reports

BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department has reported  that detectives have received a ruling in connection with a homicide investigation. The ruling will cause investigators to reclassify the investigation. The original incident occurred on Aug. 18, at 1029 34th Street North.

According to the authorities, at approximately 1:28 a.m., officers from the North Precinct responded to the incident location on a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers arrived and located the victim inside the residence unresponsive. The coroner, along with Birmingham Fire and Rescue, arrived and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

Authorities identified the victim as Mia Heard, a 49-year-old black female, of Birmingham.

According to the police, investigators assessed several different aspects in this investigation. After BPD investigators presented the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, it was ruled that there was not sufficient evidence to pursue murder charges in the death investigation of Mia Heard. The case of Mia Heard will be placed under unclassified death status.
