MONTGOMERY — A lawmaker for the state of Alabama proposed a bill to make use of a cell phone illegal while driving if that phone does not have a hands-free connection, according to WIAT.
WIAT reported that some lawmakers believe the proposed law to be redundant and unnecessary.
“The problem is not the cell phone,” Rep. Mike Ball said. “The problem is the distraction. I think our existing stature covers the problem.”
The proposed law has exemptions, one of which is for making calls to 911, according to WIAT.
The Alabama legislative session is schedule to start on March 5.
