BIRMINGHAM — A homicide that resulted from a Birmingham man shooting a suspect breaking into his home has been ruled as justifiable.
The Birmingham Police Department reported that detectives received a ruling on an unclassified death investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 10 pm.
Police said officers from the West Precinct responded to Thomas Circle to investigate a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located the victim lying in the rear of the location unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
Officers learned that the home owner shot the suspect as he encountered the suspect trying to break into his home. Investigators presented the case information to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office and it was ruled as a justifiable shooting, according to the Birmingham Police Department.
