BIRMINGHAM — The Jefferson County Coroners’ Office has identified a man that died in Birmingham on Monday. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

According to authorities, on Monday at approximately 4:30 p.m., Birmingham PD was called to the 300 block Oporto Madrid Boulevard to investigate a motor vehicle crash. The decedent was found inside the vehicle and was subsequently transported to UAB Hospital ED by Birmingham Fire/Rescue.
The man has been identified as Jeremy Lavender, a 24-year-old black male, of Birmingham.
Officials said that despite medical intervention, the man was pronounced deceased at 5:12 p.m.
Birmingham PD reported that they had received calls of shots fired in the area just prior to the motor vehicle collision.
The coroner’s office said an autopsy will be performed today to determine the cause and manner of death. At this time, the coroner’s office is unable to report if the shooting or the motor vehicle collision caused or contributed to the death.
