CENTER POINT — A Jefferson County deputy shot an armed suspect in the Martinique area of Center Point on Sunday, according to law enforcement, and new details have emerged.

Authorities reported that around 9:48 a.m., a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a moving violation. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fled into an apartment complex parking lot off Polly Reed Road.
The driver exited the vehicle with a handgun. The deputy then fired and struck the driver. The handgun was recovered and later found to be stolen, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
Officials said the driver of the vehicle is being treated for his injuries and the deputy was unharmed. The investigation has been turned over to ALEA.
