Birmingham PD reported that a murder warrant was obtained for Xavier Scott, a 36-year-old black male, for an incident that occurred on Sunday around 5:42 p.m. at 817 82nd St. S.
The victim was identified as Jennifer Marie Lane, 31, of Moody.
BPD Sgt. Johnny Williams said officers from the East Precinct responded to St. Vincent’s East Hospital to investigate a report of an injured female that appeared to have suffered an assault.
“Officers arrived and learned that the female had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff,” Williams said. “Officers also located and detained the male suspect that transported the female to the hospital by private vehicle.”
According to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, Lane’s death was due to injuries sustained in an assault.
Williams said investigators received information that Lane and the suspect were involved in a domestic physical altercation at 817 82nd St. S. before she was transported to the hospital.
Williams said Scott is to be transferred from the Birmingham City Jail to the Jefferson County Jail where he will be held on a $150,000 bond.
