MONTGOMERY — Representative Juandalynn Givan (D-Birmingham) and House Speaker Mac McCutcheon (R-Monrovia) both released statements regarding an incident that took place on the House floor Thursday.
A confrontation occurred as Givan was voicing concern over bills moving through the House. Givan said she had questions that were not getting answered before the bills came up for a vote.
According to Speaker McCutcheon, Givan made harassing statements and made obscenities. He said the incident was disappointing and shocking, and that as the speaker, it is his job to maintain order.
Givan said her statements Thursday were a reaction to ongoing resistance to racism and sexism. She vowed to continue to fight for equal treatment and access for all.
