JEFFERSON COUNTY — A former Jefferson County deputy and Trussville resident Phillip Wayne Humphries has been arrested for possession of obscene material.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Humphries is accused of having material showing a child under the age of 17 in an obscene manner.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office learned about the investigation being performed by ALEA before charges were filed and Humphries turned in his resignation.
The sheriff’s office said Humphries was hired on April 4, 1989.
He is being held in jail on a $15,000 bond.
Attorney General Steve Marshall said special agents from his office found Humphries in possession of child pornography.
If convicted, Humphries faces a penalty of one to 10 years for possession of child pornography, which is a class C felony.
