BIRMINGHAM — On Wednesday, the Alabama Department of Transportation will begin installation of raised pavement markers on AL 3 (US 31), AL 4 (US 78), I-459, I-20 and I-59 at the following locations:
- AL 3 (US 31) – Northbound and Southbound, from 15th Avenue North (MP 275.95) in Birmingham to 52nd Avenue North (MP 279.35), in Fultondale.
- I-459 – Northbound and Southbound, from the bridge over Cahaba Heights Road (MP 21.0) to the bridge over the Cahaba River (MP 23.5), in Vestavia Hills.
- I-459 – Northbound and Southbound, from the US 280 Interchange (MP 20.0) in Vestavia Hills to the US 31 Interchange (MP 13.0), in Hoover.
- AL 3/US 31 – Northbound and Southbound, from the I-459 Interchange (MP 264.3) to the I-65 Interchange (MP 265.3), in Hoover.
- I-20 – Eastbound and Westbound, from the I-59 Interchange MP 130.0) to Oporto-Madrid Boulevard (MP 132.0), in Birmingham.
- AL 4/US 78 – Eastbound and Westbound, from Crest Green Road (MP 102.89) to Grants Mill Road (MP 105.23), in Irondale.
- I-59 – Northbound and Southbound, from the I-459 South Exit (MP 106.0), in Bessemer to the I-459 North Exit (MP 137.0), in Trussville.
- All lanes will re-open to traffic no later than 5 a.m. each day.
As each location above is completed, the operation will move to the next one down. This will be a moving operation from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, and estimated to be complete in two weeks.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival/departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area.
