CENTER POINT — A fire caused extensive damage to a home on 36th Avenue Northeast in Center Point on Sunday, March 31.
Firefighters were called to the scene after a neighbor saw smoke coming from the home. Trussville Fire Department assisted in putting out the flames.
Battalion Chief Brad Appleton said the fire started near the fireplace.
“It took us about 40 minutes to get the fire under control…it’s extensive fire damage on the first and second floor for sure,” said Appleton.
The homeowner said he had a fire going Sunday morning and left his home after he thought it was safe.
“I literally had just left, I was going to my sister’s house to work on my truck with my brother-in-law,” the homeowner said. “I was going to the gas station to get something to drink and realized I had left my toolbox at the house. We came back around in literally five minutes and that’s when we saw all this.”
The homeowner said the home is insured and he and his 13-year-old son will be staying with family. No one was hurt.
Firefighters will continue to monitor the home.
