MONTGOMERY — State Sen. Gerald Allen of Tuscaloosa has proposed a bill that would allow citizens to carry a concealed handgun in public without having to get a permit.
The Senate Judiciary Committee will host a public hearing on the bill next week, according to The Tuscaloosa News.
The Senate Judiciary Committee originally planned to host the hearing on Wednesday. However, the committee adjourned before the hearing could take place due to time constraints. The Tuscaloosa News said that several state sheriffs and representatives from Moms Demand Action were on hand for the hearing.
Allen has proposed this bill for several years. According to The Tuscaloosa News, he believes it is an issue of people being able to bear arms without a fee.
