VESTAVIA HILLS — A man involved in a weekend parking lot shooting at the Vestavia Chuck E. Cheese died Monday afternoon.

According to authorities, on Saturday, April 13, at 2:50 p.m., the Vestavia Hills Police Department, along with the Vestavia Hills Fire Department, were dispatched to a call of shots fired with multiple victims at 500 Old Town Road.
Police said that upon arrival, a man was being treated by the fire department for a gunshot wound to the chest. A female child was also treated for a gunshot wound to the leg. Both victims were taken to area hospitals.
An investigation determined that a firearm located in a backpack/diaper bag accidentally went off striking both victims, according to the Vestavia Hills Police Department.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the adult victim as Timothy Roshun Smith Jr. He was 22 years old and from Birmingham. According to the coroner’s office, he was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 2:10 p.m. on Monday, April 15.
The juvenile victim is expected to make a full recovery.
