CENTER POINT — Center Point High School has been evacuated after a mercury spill on campus.
Center Point Fire Battalion Chief Brad Appleton said it shouldn’t take long for crews to clean up the small spill. He said Birmingham Fire and Rescue HAZMAT crews and DECON (Decontamination) crews are on the way to the scene.
Appleton said there were no significant exposures to the mercury, but that four students and two adults were taken to the hospital for evaluation. The students have since been released from Children’s of Alabama.
The Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency has also been notified.
