Chris Soto converted a PK in overtime Friday night to give the Pinson Valley Indians a 2-1 victory over Gardendale in the first round of the AHSAA Class 6A Boys’ Soccer Playoffs. With the win, Pinson Valley advances to meet cross-town rival Clay-Chalkville High School in the second round Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m.
Clay-Chalkville defeated Carver-Birmingham, 7-1, at home in the first round Thursday afternoon. The winner of CCHS (13-6) and PVHS (12-8-2) will meet either Homewood or McAdory in the state quarterfinals on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m.
Springville’s boys also advanced to the second round of the playoffs, beating Lincoln, 3-1. The Tigers will travel to Southside-Gadsden for their Class 4A-5A second round game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
In girls’ action, Pinson Valley (7-9-1) fell to Gardendale, 10-0, in the Class 6A first round Friday afternoon.
