From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency said only sirens within the polygon will sound during a tornado warning.
Traditionally, sirens would sound county-wide whenever a warning was issued by the National Weather Service. Because of advancements in storm predicting, that is no longer necessary. This means if you hear a siren, you need to seek shelter immediately.
The EMA would like everyone to have more than one way to get warnings. Sirens only have an audible maximum range of a mile and a half. Being inside a home can impair your ability to be alerted.
