BIRMINGHAM — Crews were called to a tractor trailer crash on Interstate 459 on Sunday, May 5, 2019. A truck that was carrying a black graphite powdery substance left the roadway, traveled down an embankment and hit several trees. It happened at 10:45 a.m. at mile marker 22 (Cahaba River Bridge).
Because of the terrain, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said it could take a while to recover the vehicle. The northbound side of I-459 is down to two lanes until the truck is removed from the wooded area.
No one was seriously hurt. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
