BIRMINGHAM — A homicide investigation is being conducted by the Birmingham Police Department after the death of a man found suffering from a gunshot wound Monday, May 6.
At around 9:15 a.m., officers from the South Precinct were dispatched to the 4500 block of Ninth Avenue North on a gunfire alert from the Shot Spotter system, said police. Upon arrival, officers found the victim unresponsive, lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound, according to law enforcement.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital for treatment.
Police said that investigators later learned that the victim had succumbed to his wounds. He was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
Police have identified the victim as Lovell Amison, 23, of Birmingham.
No suspects are in custody.
