BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Water Works Board said a body was found in an intake basin in the Sicard Hollow Road treatment facility.
The body was found around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the Cahaba Pump Station by an employee, according to Rick Jackson with Birmingham Water Works.
Birmingham Police are investigating the incident as an “unclassified death.” The person found has not been identified and the body has been sent for further examination to determine a cause of death.
Jackson said there is no threat to the water. He said the location where the body was found is the initial location where water is taken in before it is treated. He said it is not uncommon to find dead things in the water, but usually those things include deer and raccoons, not human bodies. Still, he said the water treatment process will work the same to clean any impurities from drinking water before it reaches homes and businesses.
