Homicide Investigation Update
BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department reported that detectives have received a ruling in connection with a homicide investigation. The incident was reported on Sunday, April 28, at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Officers from the West Precinct were dispatched to the 2800 block of Bessemer Road to investigate a Shot Spotter alert of shots fired in the area. As officers arrived, they received a report of a person shot at 2808 Bessemer Road. Officers located the victim unresponsive inside the doorway of a car detail shop suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue reported to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased as a result of his injury.
Police identified the deceased as Omari Sharad Pollnitz, 38, of Birmingham.
The other subject involved was identified and interviewed by BPD investigators. BPD Homicide Investigators presented the information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Following the assessment of the information, the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office ruled the shooting as justifiable.
No warrants will be pursued in this investigation.
