MONTGOMERY — The final measles test on an infant in St. Clair County came back negative for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The original test from a commercial laboratory was positive and was reported to the Alabama Department of Public Health. The case was the first presumptive measles report in the state of Alabama. As of May 8, 2019, a total of 252 reports were being investigated in 2019. Of those investigations, 170 were closed.
ADPH will continue to investigate all reports received through the formal process for notifiable disease. It recommends those without immunity to measles get the MMR vaccine.
The Jefferson County Department of Health (JCDH) is offering a measles vaccine to residents of the county. People that do not have a primary care provider will also be eligible to get the vaccine.
