MONTGOMERY — Hewitt-Trussville’s game against Baker was a nail biter until the end. On the last play with two outs, Hannah Borden pulled it off with a walk-off home run overcoming a two-run deficit and leading to a 12-11 victory.
Kenleigh Cahalan had a total of six runs for the Huskies, including three from a grand slam in the fourth inning.
Hayden Neugent had the win for the Huskies. She gave up nine hits and six runs. She struck out four. Neugent pitched for three and a third innings. Kaitlyn Hughes threw three and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Helainna Londeree had the loss for Baker. She gave up one hit and two runs, walking one.
“The fight, the sheer willingness to keep going forward,” said Head Coach Taylor Burt. “I love these kids, and this is all we’ve talked about all year long and they’re doing it at the right time. Never down, never out. The just kept fighting.”
Hewitt-Trussville Huskies Varsity tallied 15 hits on the day. Abigail Dorsett, Cahalan, Crystal Maze and Maddie Katona all collected multiple hits for Hewitt-Trussville Huskies Varsity. Dorsett went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Hewitt-Trussville Huskies Varsity in hits.
Baker racked up 17 hits in the game. Murphy, Katie Hutchinson, McRee, Lauren Lindsey, Krissy Hutchinson, Mizelle, and Jill Robinson each collected multiple hits for Baker. Murphy led Baker with three hits in four at-bats.
