MONTGOMERY — Governor Kay Ivey has declared the month of May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Alabama. The Alabama Counseling Association (ALCA), ACA’s State Branch in the state of Alabama, petitioned the Governor’s office to make the proclamation.
The nationwide designation is sponsored by the American Counseling Association (ACA). The purpose is to promote awareness about the need for sound mental health. The organization is asking people to use #CareToShare on social media to raise awareness.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, approximately 46.6 million Americans suffer from mental health issues.
