As we honor our fallen heroes this week of Memorial Day, every American should pause to reflect on the sacrifices of our sailors and soldiers.
Alabama has a proud history of sending her native sons and daughters in uniform to protect our Nation, which makes the recent news out of Washington DC. is so disturbing.
The American Taliban who played a role in the murder of Alabama native and CIA Agent Johnny Michael Spann was released from prison last week.
Though sentenced to 20 years in prison, John Walker Lindh was released early despite concerns that he is still a danger to the American public. In 2015, he wrote a letter to an NBC Los Angeles producer for which he praised the terror group ISIS saying they were “doing a spectacular job.”
It is a shame this American traitor will not spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Both Alabama Senator Richard Shelby and Congressman Bradley Byrne have expressed their displeasure about the release of this and other terrorists. We should hope the American intelligence community will address their concerns. Violent Islamic extremists like Lindh present a potential danger to the American public.
While Lindh is an evil traitor and terrorist, we will always honor an American hero Michael Spann.
The state of Alabama is grateful for our brave fallen neighbor and grateful for the sacrifice he made on behalf of our Nation.
