PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — A video from one of the southeast’s most visited tourists’ spots may have you thinking twice before swimming in the ocean. A man in Panama City Beach, Florida, captured the video showing what appears to be a shark circling a swimmer.
The video, taken by Stan Battles on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, shows the large silhouette of a shark beneath the surface of the emerald waters near the Tidewater Resort.
In the video, you can see the shark moving closer to the swimmer. At one point, it appears the shark is swimming away, then it makes a wide turn and moves in even closer. Then, you can hear people screaming, “Shark!”
Battles told the Panama City News-Herald he rushed down to the beach to find the woman. He talked to her about what he witnessed and showed her the video.
“She never saw it,” Battles said. “She was just like, ‘I think I’m done with the ocean.’”
Battles took the video from a balcony on the 28th floor of the resort. Since he posted it online it has been shared nearly 3,000 times.
