GOODWATER — An Alabama longhorn is now officially the Guinness Book of World Records title-holder in two categories.
Poncho Via holds the record for the largest horn spread on a living steer and the largest horn spread on a steer ever. According to Guinness, the Texas longhorn, from Goodwater, Alabama, has a rack that spans 10 feet, 7.4 inches.
The family that owns Poncho Via has had a feeling this would be the case since the steer was only four years old. They said his horns were not curving up like those of most longhorns, but they were growing straight out.
Now the steer is seven years old and has surpassed the former record-holder by over an inch.
