BIRMINGHAM — The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for 17 Alabama Counties.
Counties impacted in central Alabama are Bibb, Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Perry, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker.
Counties impacted in northwest Alabama are Marion and Winston.
Counties impacted in west-central Alabama are Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa.
The system has the potential to produce strong winds and hail. The strongest storms could produce winds up to 60 mph. The threat of severe weather will continue throughout the afternoon and evening on Thursday.
