GADSDEN — One man was killed on Saturday, June 29, when the 1999 Mack tractor-trailer he was driving crashed 15 miles from Ft. Payne.
James Harold Hillis, 61, of Silver Creek, Georgia, was pronounced dead on the scene at the 235-mile marker of Interstate 59.
Investigators with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency determined the truck ran off the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned before catching fire. ALEA said the crash happened at 3:40 p.m. The Mack truck was the only vehicle involved.
