TRUSSVILLE – ACTA Theatre will be bringing all the magic, song, dance and romance of Brigadoon to Trussville starting Friday, July 12, at 7 p.m.
Michael Bridges is directing this beloved Lerner and Loewe classic about a magical Scottish land that only appears every hundred years.
“It is a classical musical,” said Bridges. “One of the golden oldies that premiered in 1947. It is one of those from the golden age of musicals. Brigadoon is basically one of those old-fashioned love stories, but it has the mystery and the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. It is a magical tale about following your heart and the power of love.”
Brigadoon contains some very beautiful music and applauds Scottish tradition.
“It’s got everything,” said Bridges. “It’s got heart, romance, a little tragedy, a little comedy. It is one of those classics. We thought it was important at ACTA to do something like this every now and then.”
Bridges is very excited about the talented cast that will bring this musical to life.
“We have a cast of over 40 people,” said Bridges. “Ranging from ages like nine to into their 70s. So, it is a definite mix of cast. We have some members that have done a lot of theater and some it is their very first theater experience. One of the lead characters, this is his very first time on stage and he is doing a very good job. ACTA is one of those theaters that promotes family participation. I have a couple of families that are in this. I have a father with three children that are in it.”
Cast, crew and director are all set for opening night.
“Opening night is (Friday),” said Bridges. “We are chomping at the bit ready to go. The cast has worked very hard. There are a lot of dance sequences in this and we have attacked them with gusto.”
