TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department announced the arrest of a woman in connection to a narcotics investigation.
Detective Ben Short said a search was executed on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Chevron gas station at 3620 Mary Tyler Road.
Anh Huynh, 64, of Birmingham, was taken into custody and is now facing drug charges.
Investigators said they recovered 162 bottles of liquid mitragyna speciosa and nine bottles of mitragyna speciosa in pill form, from the store. Chief Eric Rush said mitragyna speciosa, also known as Kratom, mimics the effects of opioids. Rush said the substance was banned in Alabama in 2016. Mitragynine is classified as a schedule I controlled substance and it is illegal to buy, sell or be in possession of products containing the drug.
Huynh is facing a drug trafficking charge after the police department received complaints and investigated. Huynh was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where she was released after posting a $500,000 bond.
Huynh is considered innocent until proven guilty.
