WEAVER — A plane crash in Weaver, Alabama, took the life of a Georgia man on Sunday evening.
Harvell Walker Jr., of Fayetteville, Georgia, was killed when his single-engine aircraft crashed in a wooded area off of Bains Gap Road.
According to news reports, the plane’s signal went dark at approximately 7 p.m. The aircraft was then located using Walker’s daughter’s Find My iPhone app, which pinged the location of the missing aircraft.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office located the crash site and found Walker deceased.
The U.S. Air Force Search and Rescue, based out of Pensacola, Florida, first notified the sheriff’s office of the missing aircraft.
Walker had departed from from Muscle Shoals and was headed to Peachtree City, Georgia.
