CENTER POINT — The Center Point Community Center is hosting a charity fundraiser called Boot Camp for Breast Cancer on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019.
Jordana Crowdis, with the community center, said there will be two outdoor boot camp sessions.
“The boot camp itself was created as a way to symbolize the fight, and to honor the women who are currently fighting, survived, or were lost to breast cancer,” said Crowdis.
The purpose of the fundraiser is to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, to aid in breast cancer research. The community center also wants to spread awareness.
“Women diagnosed and treated in the early stages of breast cancer increase their chances of beating the disease,” said Crowdis. “We want to encourage the women in our community and surrounding communities to become more knowledgeable of warning signs and the importance of self-checks and yearly screenings.”
Crowdis said the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama has been raising funds for cutting-edge breast cancer research since 1996.
“They have provided the necessary funding for breakthroughs in treatment for breast cancer patients at the O’neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, making the treatment center one of the best in the country,” she said.
The workouts are modified for all fitness levels and spectators are welcome. Two sessions will be offered. One will be from 8:45 a.m. – 11 a.m. an the other from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.
