HUEYTOWN — A man has been charged in the alleged heroin overdose death of another man this past Wednesday.
Cecil William Cox, 57, of Hueytown, has been charged with murder following the death of 27-year-old Robert Beane. Police say that Cox provided the heroin and then failed to call the police when Beane started to overdose.
According to media reports, the two men were in a vehicle together on Wednesday when Beane began to overdose. Yet, instead of taking him to a hospital or calling the police, Cox drove home and went to sleep.
Beane was found outside of a vehicle at Cox’s home in the 3900 block of Old Johns Road at 4:08 a.m. on Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at 4:25 a.m.
Under Alabama’s felony murder law, a person can be charged with murder if they are participating in a felony crime that results in death.
Cox was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Friday. He is held on $75,000 bond.
