HUFFMAN — The Hewitt-Trussville girls’ basketball team continued its impressive start to the 2019-20 season with a 72-25 victory over Huffman on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Huskies moved to 4-0 on the season with victories over McAdory, Center Point, Austin and now Huffman. Save for their opening season victory at McAdory, the Huskies have outscored their past three opponent 181-81. The victory over Austin was a rematch of the 2019 first-round matchup in the state tournament where in which Hewitt-Trussville won, 62-47.
In the victory over the Vikings, Hewitt-Trussville was paced by Leah Harrison’s 18 points (16 of which came in the first half). Amiya Payne followed behind with 15 points, while D’Yone Jones led the Huskies’ defense with seven blocks along with six points.

- The Hewitt-Trussville boys’ basketball team suffered its first defeat of the season after a 66-58 loss.
With the defeat, the Huskies slip to 3-1 on the season. The Vikings moved to 2-1 on the season. Hewitt-Trussville was led by Cameron Glover’s 19 points. Jacolby Thomas followed behind with 16 points, and Brandan Copeland recorded 13 points. - The Leeds boys’ basketball team dropped to 0-4 on the season following a 65-35 loss to Pelham. Since the 2013-14 season, the Greenwave has not opened their first four games of the season with a plus .500 record.
- The Moody boys’ basketball team lost to Pell City, 54-51. The defeat drops the Blue Devils to 2-3 on the season. Moody has lost three straight games following a season opening victory over Jefferson Christian Academy.
- The Leeds girls’ basketball team lost yet another one after falling to Pelham, 67-25. Like the boys, the girls have yet to win a game on the season, 0-4. This follows a 2018-19 season in which the Greenwave open the year 7-0 and advanced into the state tournament before falling in the first round to Handley.
- The Springville girls’ basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Ashville, 67-18. The Tigers have not allowed an opponent to score more than 30 points this season.
- The Moody girls’ basketball team slipped to 0-3 on the season following a 14-51 loss to Pell City. The Blue Devils have scored only 14 points per game in their past two games.
