From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The Trussville Police Department is reminding drivers to lock their cars, after several car break-ins over the weekend of Nov. 16-17.
According to a police report, someone rummaged through three vehicles that were parked at homes on Victoria Avenue. The incidents happened between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The vehicle owners said the cars were unlocked. From one car, a wallet with money, credit and debit cards were taken. From another, the car’s key and the key fob were taken.
On the same day, the owner of a Ford Lariat said someone broke into his vehicle, parked at Holiday Inn Express on Valley Road. Two handguns, a Dewalt duffle bag, an electric meter and other items were taken from the truck. The owner also reported the damage to the door lock.
Detective Ben Short said it is important to lock vehicles, but break-in prevention doesn’t stop there.
“Make sure your vehicles are locked and make sure all of your valuables are out of sight,” said Short. “That goes a long way in helping prevent people from breaking into cars.”
Short said it is important to never leave your firearm in an unattended vehicle.
