AUBURN — Former Pinson Valley two-time champion quarterback Bo Nix has added his name to the Auburn record books just 11 games into his collegiate career.
The Tiger’s freshman starting quarterback, who beat out Joey Gatewood in the offseason for the starting job, set a new Tiger record for completions as a freshman after his 181st completion went to Harold Joiner on a screen pass that culminated in a touchdown. The completion surpassed former W. A. Berry High School quarterback Stan White, who has held the record since 1999. White started 45 consecutive games as the Auburn starting quarterback. He was the team captain on Auburn’s 1993 undefeated (11-0) squad that has been immortalized as Auburn’s Team of the Decade for the 1990s.
In addition, the touchdown pass tied Nix with White with 14 touchdown passes on the season. Nix played for just over two quarters in the blowout win against Samford.
Nix currently has 185 completions following No. 15 Auburn’s 52-0 victory over Samford in the tuneup for next weekend’s Iron Bowl. Nix is 185-for-321 with 2,193 passing yards and six interceptions on the season.
Following the Tiger’s victory over Samford, Nix downplayed the record that he broke and told reporters that he doesn’t care much for records and stats.
