Pinson Valley is now one step closer to playing in its third consecutive championship following this past Friday’s 26-14 victory over previously undefeated Muscle Shoals in the quarterfinals of the 2019 Class 6A state playoffs.
The Trojans had taken a 14-13 lead late in the third quarter, but the Indians’ defense clamped down and the offense scored two consecutive touchdowns to hammer the final nail in Muscle Shoals’ coffin.
The final of those two Indians touchdowns came from running back Kenji Christian. The junior punched it in from 4-yards out on fourth down to give Pinson Valley the 12-point lead in the waning moments of the game. The touchdown capped off a 15 play, 90-yard drive.
Christian finished the game with 21 carries for 118 yards with one touchdown on the night.
His gritty performance against one of the top defenses in Class 6A earns him the title of OASS Player of the Week. Right there alongside Christian is the outstanding performance of the Indians’ defense. The unit allowed just 183 total yards on the night. The Trojans’ top-ranked offense passed for just 43 total yards.
