PINSON — It is not too hard to imagine a team that Oxford would want to play less with a trip to the state championship on the line than a Pinson Valley team playing arguably the best football of any program in the state.
Add in the fact that the Yellow Jackets narrowly defeated the Indians, 33-34, behind a miracle heave and catch in the waning moments of the game in a contest that Pinson Valley believes it should have won.
The upcoming semifinal match will be a redemption game for quarterback Barry White. Following a smooth first-half performance in which White guided the Indians to a 19-0 lead, the senior stumbled in the second half as Oxford switched to a zone defense and forced two consecutive White interceptions that turned the tide in the Yellow Jacket’s favor.
Since that loss, Pinson Valley has won seven straight games behind a relentless defense and an offense that had recorded five consecutive 40-plus point games before scoring 26 points against Muscle Shoals’ second-ranked defense in the quarterfinals.
With that, here’s a look at the remaining Class 6A bracket.
A full preview will be available later in the week.
