CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — The Chambers County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office said a woman was killed by a group of feral hogs on Sunday, Nov. 24.
Christine Rollins, 59, was a caregiver for an elderly couple in the city of Anahuac. Sheriff’s investigators believe Rollins was attacked in the early morning hours when she arrived for work.
Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne said the cause of death has been ruled as “exsanguination due to feral hog assault.” Exsanguination means the draining or severe loss of blood.
“In my 35 years, I’ll tell you, it was one of the worst things I’ve ever seen,” said Hawthorne. “There is no doubt in my mind that it was multiple animals and we can tell that by the multiple sizes of the bites.”
Hawthorne said this type of incident is rare in the U.S.
