AUBURN — Former Pinson Valley two-time state champion quarterback Bo Nix solidified his spot atop several Auburn statistical categories following the Tigers’ 48-45 victory over Alabama in the Iron Bowl on Saturday.
Nix, who passed former W. A. Berry High School quarterback Stan White for the most completions in a season as a freshman and tied his touchdown record (14) during Auburn’s 52-0 victory over Samford, has now become the Tiger’s all-time freshman quarterback leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
The freshman surpassed White’s passing yardage record on Saturday following a 5-yard completion to Matthew Hill in the second quarter. Nix’s game-tying touchdown to Sal Cannella then propelled Nix past White for the most touchdowns recorded in a freshman season.
Nix has passed for 2,366 yards with 15 touchdowns on the year.
Nix finished the Iron Bowl with 173 passing yards after going 15-for-30 with the lone touchdown.
“You can fantasize at home in your room taking a knee against Alabama in your freshman year at the end of the game, and that actually happened,” Nix said following the game. “So it’s just a surreal moment. There’s nothing like it. I’ve never experienced anything like it.”
