A former Gadsden City High School football player was recently signed to the Washington Redskins’ practice squad following his participation in Colin Kaepernick’s workout at Charles R. Drew High School in Riverdale, Georgia, several weeks ago.
Jordan Veasy, who played collegiately at California, met Kaepernick when the former San Fransisco 49er was in his class auditing black representation in popular culture, per The Washington Post. The Gadsden native, who played two years with the Bears (2016-17) where he caught 64 passes for 797 yards with nine touchdowns, went undrafted in 2018. He has since signed with four NFL teams, most recently with the Buffalo Bills.
When Veasy, 24, discovered that Kaepernick was holding a workout in Atlanta he reached out to the former 49ers’ agent.
“I was going to be in Gadsden running routes anyway,” Veasy told the Post. “Might as well run ’em in front of some scouts.”
At the workout, Veasy was the subject of several viral videos. He believes his performance led to another chance to break into the pros. Nine days following the workout, the Cleveland Browns brought him in, but he ultimately left without signing a deal.
Veasy told the Washington Post that he saw the Redskins’ assistant director of pro personnel, Richard Mann II, at the workout.
“It was surreal,” Veasy told the Post.
Kaepernick, however, remains unsigned
