BIRMINGHAM — The 2019-20 track and field season opened with a bang for the Hewitt-Trussville boys and girls’ teams as they traveled to the CrossPlex Athletic Facility in Birmingham to participate in the 2019 Magic City Classic.
Both the boys and girls’ teams managed to place several athletes within the top 10 of multiple events.
The girls were led by the second place finish of Kelsey Martin in the triple jump with a distance of 35 feet, and the second place finish of Maci Mills in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:24.09. In the 60 meter dash, Brianna Beckham finished in eighth with a time of 8:20.
Beckham also took home a fourth place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.49. Kelsey Martin recorded a 10th place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.84 and snagged a fourth place in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 11.5 inches. Erika Myrik finished in seventh place in the shot put with a distance of 29 feet, 6 inches.
The Hewitt-Trussville boys were led by Syed Raza’s fourth place finish in the shot put with a distance of 47 feet, 6 inches. Wil Edwards finished in sixth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.20. Jayzk Childs and Sam Ronsisvalle took home seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 800 meter run.
Nathan Knox placed in sixth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:41.49. Aaron Himes finished in eighth place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:10.66.
Caleb Kettering placed ninth in the shot put with a distance of 40 feet, 4.5 inches.
