TRUSSVILLE — A Trussville couple is spreading Christmas cheer to friends and family with a special Christmas village inside their home.
Grace and Charles Nelson live in Tiffany Estates. Grace Nelson said the creation all started by accident.
“It started accidentally because we bought a few pieces, a skating pond and a bridge and stuff like that from a store that was going out of business down in Florida,” said Grace Nelson.
They already had some pieces at home, so they decided to buy the new ones to add to their collection. As they began to look around at all the pieces available, they realized they were made by the brand Department 56.
“We just got it to go with some other things we had, not realizing what Department 56 meant or anything about it,” said Grace Nelson.
The Nelsons’ interest was peaked as they continued to look around, ultimately learning more about Department 56’s large operation.
The Nelsons built a room at their home just for the Christmas village. The Nelsons show their village off to people they know. Grace Nelson said their village is very detailed and is put together with backgrounds and lights to make it look real.
“It’s just a fun thing that we do,” said Grace Nelson. “Most people have never seen anything like it.”
