From The Trussville Tribune staff reports
TRUSSVILLE — The city of Trussville has placed signs at the corners of Main Street and North Chalkville Road and North Chalkville Road and Linden Street, to showcase what is to come in the city block that is being redeveloped.
The location of the old Braden’s Furniture has been demolished and plans for a new plaza are in the works. Those plans were revealed back in October, during the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Mayor Buddy Choat showed the renderings, which will feature new parking, a large clock and new sidewalks. The new signs feature those renderings and companies involved in the redevelopment.
The new plaza will be the focal point of the well-traveled corner in downtown. The Trussville Rotary Daybreak Club is donating the large clock to be the centerpiece of the design.
The intersection of Main Street and Chalkville Road will also be widened. Mayor Choat said new traffic signals will be installed. Linden Street will be revamped after the building at 110 North Chalkville Road is demolished. The Trussville Redevelopment Authority (TRA) currently owns that property, which is known as the old Herb’s Hardware. The city owns a piece of property at the corner of North Chalkville Road and Highway 11. The city is asking to swap the corner property for the old Herb’s Hardware property so that TRA can develop the corner lot.
Linden Street will also be turned into a right-in, right-out only road.
Choat said the new signs will show people what is to come.
“This will help keep it in the forefront of everybody’s minds, of the construction and difficulties getting around through the area,” said Choat. “It will show them what the end result will be and what this progress will produce.”
Choat said the project is a little behind due to weather, but he believes the contractor will be able to make up for most of the time this spring. The goal is to be finished by July 2020.
